In an era where the automotive industry faces challenges such as automated and autonomous driving, smart infotainment, and the need for top-notch crash performance alongside cost and weight reduction, industry networking and collaboration are of paramount importance.
The weba TechDays provided a unique opportunity to explore the latest developments in hot forming. Experts from the automotive industry and tooling sector delivered engaging technical presentations on current topics. Simultaneously, attendees had the chance to gain valuable insights and engage with exhibitors in an industry exhibition.
A highlight of the event was the guided tour, allowing participants to experience firsthand the technical innovations at the recently expanded facility in the Czech Republic. With an investment of over EUR 20 million, significant production capacities were established, promising increased flexibility and maximum customer benefits.
Impressive technological advancements included the introduction of two additional 5-axis portal machining centers, TRIMILL VM6535 and SHW UniForce 7, for efficient processing of large castings or assemblies. Moreover, a multi-machine automation with a linear handling system was implemented to optimize machining tasks and enhance unmanned operations. Additionally, two MAZAK Variaxis i-1050 machining centers for multi-sided processing with 5-axis simulation control were acquired, with plans to expand the number of machining centers to six in the near future.
Furthermore, a 1,600-ton hydraulic hot forming press with a table size of 4,000 x 2,500 mm was acquired to streamline the integration of hot forming tools effectively. Equipped with a 22 m roller hearth furnace, the facility offers higher customer benefits through process-optimized tools.
Another technical highlight is the TruLaser Cell 7040 laser cutting machine. With linear drive in all axes, this series laser system meets the highest precision requirements for contour accuracy. Simultaneous cutting with two cutting heads ensures high productivity, even for complex components.
Thanks to the new hot forming line and the series laser, weba can now efficiently support small series or pre-series production.
The weba TechDays were not just a conference but also a celebration. The completion of the expansion and the timely commissioning of the facilities were celebrated together with participants. An impressive presentation of the company's history in moving images illustrated weba's evolution from a small tooling company with only 10 employees to an international enterprise. The vertical acrobatics performance and the captivating UV light show featuring the integrated company logo delighted the audience. Guests concluded the gala evening with lively live music.
weba remains committed to driving innovation in the automotive industry and promoting collaboration among system, component, and parts suppliers. The weba TechDays were a resounding success and a significant step in this direction.
